Neuseeland / Australien 2019, Teil 4: Sydney

Über den Dächern von Sydney wohnen wir ein paar Tage bei Marie, in einem echten Jahrhundertwendehaus! Von hier lässt es sich prima starten, um ins Zentrum der Stadt zu gelangen. Entweder zu Fuss oder mit dem Bus. Sydney hat mit der "Opalcard" ein recht schlaues System für die Nutzung des ÖPNV (Busse, Bahnen, Fähren), man spart sich das Kleingeld, hat allerdings eine weitere Karte im Portemonnaie. Und benötigt ab und zu Internet, um die Karte aufzuladen.

We stay a few days at Marie's BnB in an old beautiful house from the 20ies or so. It's a good point to start a trip to Sydney CBD by foot or bus. Sydney has got a smart system - "Opalcard" - to use local traffic (busses, trains, ferries). You don't have to collect change, but on the other hand have another card in your pocket. And you need internet to top up the card.

Nach dem Frühstück im Café an der Marina vor dem Haus laufen wir am nächsten Tag los: Hoch nach Pott's Point, runter nach Woolloomooloo, hoch zum Botanischen Garten, runter zum Circular Quay. Von da nehmen wir die Fähre nach Manly, das soll da sooo toll sein. Naja, unser Fall ist es nicht, viele Leute, viele Läden, viel Trubel. Allerdings ein sehr leckerer Wrap und Obstsaft. Wir fahren wieder zurück und machen einen Stop in Watson's Bay. Hier finden wir es viel schöner. Und megagroße Eiskugeln gibt's hier auch noch. Nach einem kurzen Spaziergang schippern wir zurück zum Circular Quay und laufen zurück zum BnB.

After breakfast at the Marina almost in front of the house we start our first tour: Up to Pott's Point, down to Woolloomooloo, up to Botanic Gardens, down to Circular Quay. We take a ferry to Manly, this is said to be such a great place. Well, not for us. Too many people, too many shops, too much hustle and bustle. But a very good veggie-wrap with fresh fruit-juice. We drive back and make a stop at Watson's Bay, we like it much better. And they have huuuuge scoops of icecream. After a short walk (of course up and down) we drive back to Circular Quay and go back to the BnB.

Zweiter Tag: Mit der Fähre nach Parramatta und zurück. Zu Fuss zum Circular Quay und dann drei Stunden auf dem Parramatta Fluss nach - naja, eben Parramatta und dann wieder zurück. Und zwar immer schön im Schatten, die Sonne brennt und wir sind froh um jedes Lüftchen. Nach der Tour suchen wir uns in Barangaroo ein Lokal mit... Fish'n'Chips (viel zu groß, die Portionen), danach wagen wir den Schritt: Mit dem Bus zurück zum BnB. Funktioniert!

The second day we take the ferry to Parramatta and back. About three hours on the Parramatta River, watching Sydney from another side. Luckily we sit in the shadow, the sun is burning and we are glad for every single breeze. After that tour we have lunch at Barangaroo: Another too big portion of fish'n'chips. And the we venture the step, we take the bus to BnB. It works!

Mutig geworden fahren wir heute wieder mit dem Bus, wir wollen auf die andere Seite der Harbour Bridge, um die einmal zu Fuss entlang zu gehen. Auf dem normalen Fussweg natürlich. Erstmal fahren wir dann aber mit dem Bus in die falsche Richtung... Irgendwann auf der richtigen Seite angekommen, erklimmen wir die Harbour Bridge (muss ich Treppen erwähnen?) und laufen drüber. In den "Rocks" teilen wir uns eine Pizza, fahren dann mit dem Bus zum BnB, packen unsere Sachen und verabschieden uns am Abend.

Courageous now we take the bus, we want to drive to the other side and walk back on the Harbour Bridge's footpath. At first we drive in the wrong direction... Arrived at the other side we scale the bridge (do I have to mention stairs?) and walk over it. At the "Rocks" we share a pizza, then drive back to our BnB with the bus, pack our stuff and depart in the evening.

Und das war's dann auch -

eine lange schöne Reise ist leider zu Ende.

Der Spartopf ist fast leer, aber mit

den wieder zurückgebrachten Dollars

ist schon der Grundstein für's nächste Mal gelegt :)
